Hello, and Welcome!

In the world of gaming, as in life, there are peaks and valleys. Right now, with the unfortunate wave of layoffs that has struck our industry, we're navigating through one of those valleys. But the essence of a community, especially the Black in Gaming community, is how it binds together in times of challenge. And this is precisely the moment to lean on that strength.

Firstly, it's imperative to remember this: every downturn is temporary. Just as day follows night, the game industry will see an uptick. The creativity, passion, and innovation that we bring to the table cannot be diminished. The world will always crave entertainment, and we will always be here to provide it. Until the tides change in our favor once more, let's make a pact to be there for each other in every possible way.

Check On Your Community: A simple "How are you doing?" can mean the world to someone who's struggling. Mental and emotional support, understanding, and a shoulder to lean on – these are the cornerstones of a community. In times of uncertainty, these gestures become even more crucial.

Sharing Opportunities: If you come across job openings or gigs, no matter how small, share them. We've set up a space on our Black in Gaming LinkedIn, so remember to tag us and we can repost job opportunities. By circulating these openings, we can ensure that they reach the eyes of someone who might desperately need them.

Resume Review & Coaching: A little guidance can go a long way. If you're in a position to offer advice, review resumes, or provide some coaching, please do. And if you're someone who needs that support, don't hesitate to reach out. We're here to uplift each other. The pathway to our next opportunity might just be a conversation away.

It's easy to feel overwhelmed when the chips are down, but the strength of the Black in Gaming community lies in its unity. In the same way that characters in our beloved games face and overcome challenges, so shall we. Together.

In closing, remember this African proverb:

"If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together." We're in this journey for the long haul, and together, we will not only navigate this downturn but emerge stronger, more connected, and ready to shape the future of gaming.
